What is your education background?
First degree was in Managerial Studies (specialising in public sector and finance) at Aston University. Master’s degree was in Criminology (Counter Fraud and Corruption Studies) from Portsmouth University.
What is your professional background?
Qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2000, and as an Accredited Counter-Fraud Specialist in 2004. I was an external auditor for 15 years in both the private and public sector (particular areas of specialism were Construction and Healthcare sectors). Took on a senior finance role (CFO) within in the healthcare sector for around 18 months, then went into teaching firstly Professional Qualifications and then into the Business School.
How do you think this experience has assisted your teaching at BPP University?
In two ways, as a senior external auditor I was involved in training both staff and clients which is a skill transferable into teaching. But mainly I can bring that practice experience from both sides of finance (doing and reviewing) into the classroom.
If you could give one piece of advice to your students for their future careers, what would it be?
Don’t think the learning journey stops when you graduate, it is something which should continue with you throughout your career.

Huge Admirer of Polar explorers. In this case the Norwegian, Roald Amundsen who was the first man to reach the South Pole.
