Navigating changes to the CIPD qualifications
With all the recent changes to CIPD qualifications, many of our CIPD students have been left wondering which one would be the next step for their career. We’ve provided answers to some of the most commonly asked questions below.
I have completed the CPP course, how does this fit into the new CIPD Qualifications?
The new Foundation Level Certificate in HR Practice (CHRP) has replaced the CPP qualification. Both of which allow you to apply for Associate Membership of the CIPD. To further your studies you could ‘top up’ to the new Foundation qualification which requires the completion of 3 additional units, you could progress on to the Intermediate Level 5 qualification or if you have a degree which is HR related you might want to consider going on to the Advanced Level qualifications.
Do I get CIPD Associate Membership when I have completed the CHRP/CLDP course?
Unlike the ‘old’ CPP/CTP you no longer receive automatic Associate Grade Membership of the CIPD, instead you are now required to apply on line via the CIPD website under the ‘membership’ tab.
What are the requirements to join the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in HR Management?
Students will have completed the Foundation Level Certificate in Human Resource Practice, the Certificate in Personnel Practice, or have relevant HR experience and an HR related degree. There are many different connotations and it is advisable for you to contact the BPP Admissions Team for further guidance.
What is the difference between the Intermediate Certificate in HRM and Intermediate Diploma in HRM?
Both of these qualifications are the same level. The Intermediate Certificate in HRM carries less credits than the Diploma, and would therefore take less time to complete. However, successful completion of the Certificate would give you the opportunity to progress on to the CIPD Advanced level qualifications as would the Diploma.
Is it possible to ‘top up’ my CPP qualification to the new Foundation Qualification?
Yes, the new Foundation Level qualification has an additional 3 units which would need to be completed. These are the 3 core units which run as a thread throughout all levels of the new CIPD qualifications and are closely linked to the CIPD HR Profession Map.
I have only completed part of the CPP course, what are my options?
It would depend very much on your experience and previous accredited learning, for example you could:
- Complete the CPP course and apply for Associate Membership of the CIPD.
- Complete the CPP course and ‘top up’ to the new Foundation Level Certificate.
- Apply for the CIPD Intermediate Level Certificate in HRM, if you have the relevant HR experience and an HR related degree.
